Preparing Your Business to Use AI

We live in an age of wonders, no doubt. News of Artificial Intelligence (AI) advances are in the news almost daily, accompanied by commentary and predictions that are almost entirely speculation. I am writing a blog article about using AI in business but, I am forced to admit, and I am not an AI expert. I have to fall back on years of consulting with other technologies throughout my career to see how expectations eventually settled into reality with other new or popular concepts. 

AI will impact our work life, but a lot of customers are possibly expecting too much in the short term. Advice from Microsoft has been restrained; they are encouraging us to experiment, be prepared to fail, and keep an attitude of learning instead of already knowing what the AI should do for you.

Finding Your Place in an AI World

I don’t know about you, but for me AI is starting to feel a little too intelligent and a little less artificial. I’ve been watching as blog posts, videos, scripts, images, and now workflows and applications generated by AI have gradually gone from “oh that’s so silly,” to “wow that’s pretty good.” I even saw an AI generated hand recently that had the right number of fingers! Loop: Microsoft's Newest Multitool

Microsoft recently released the Microsoft Loop app into Public Preview. Microsoft Loop isn't new, it has been around since 2021, but this new app unifies some of the working components that already exist in Teams, Outlook, and Dynamics 365. The Microsoft Loop app extends the components unifying them into a convenient interface. This is a Public Preview, so there are some things that are not completely smooth. The Loop app allows quick collaboration and sharing, with features of note taking and task management adapted from the tools that already use Loop components like OneNote and Teams. Even experimental features such as a Co-Pilot are quickly working into the app.
